After a grand opening exhibition of the paintings at London’s Barbican Arts Centre in the spring of 1985, “Rolls-Royce Fantasia” continued to show at museums throughout the UK and abroad.

Weston tells the time-honoured story familiar to all true Rolls-Royce enthusiasts, but more than that he conjures up the spirit of the age, recreating the exciting atmosphere in which Rolls-Royce became the password for excellence, the pride of Britain and the envy of the world.

Highlights illustrated in the paintings include the first meeting between Rolls and Royce, the earliest models of their motor car, and the climatic appearance of the “Silver Ghost”. Other canvases highlight exotic models custom-made for the maharajahs of India, others transformed into armoured cars and ambulances during World War I, and sports models built in the United States during the “roaring twenties”. The paintings also depict the tragedy of Charles Rolls’ sudden, untimely death and Henry Royce’s continuing search for perfection.

The distinctive Weston style links these superb images with narrative vignettes which together unfold the magical Rolls-Royce story. It is printed in two and six colours on the finest quality papers and is beautifully bound by Zaehnsdorf of London in deep blue leather and suede luxe with silk ends, goldleaf inscriptions, gilding to all edges and tissue between all twenty-five colour plates.
